Why Vote?

The Board of Education is responsible for making major policy decisions governing all aspects of education with the School District, as mandated in the School Act. The primary functions of the Board of Education are:
  • To set local policy for the effective and efficient operation of schools
  • To approve local courses and textbooks
  • To hire and assign teachers, supervisory personnel and administrative officers
  • To establish teachers' conditions of work
  • To manage School District property
  • To preare and approve operating and capital budgets
The NVSD Board of Education is comprised of elected community members with varying interests, expertise and backgrounds. My professional background and community interests will strengthen this team to ensure good process, sound decisions, and successful implementation.

  1. Sheila - do you have examples of decisions the Board makes that would be informed by, and made differently, by the perspectives you are focused on (focus, sharing, integration, celebration)?

  2. Given the significant funding constraints, the Board will need to help Administration determine which programs will be cut and which schools may be closed. These decisions will impact staff, students and families. To make these decisions, I want to ensure we remain FOCUSED on what is truly required to ensure student achievement, SHARE information and ideas openly will all stakeholder in the whole decision making process, and look for opportunities to INTEGRATE services where we can. There may not be much to CELEBRATE, except that we will stay focused on quality education and great student performance, even in these hard times.
